What is the design process to create my personalized map?

Our maps are bespoke, one of a kind works of art created by hand.  After you place an order, we will contact you to confirm the timing and discuss your ideas and design details. All of your information will be incorporated into a rough draft and sent to you as a PDF proof for review.  Your comments and suggestions are welcome.  Designs typically go through 2-3 artwork proof cycles and one color proof cycle until we arrive at the final artwork phase.

How long does artwork take to design?

Depending on our schedule, the turnaround time for illustrated maps is as follows:
Couture Maps: 4-5 weeks
Restyled Maps: 1-2 weeks
Totes:  2 weeks, once map artwork is finished
Booklets & Programs: 2 weeks, once map artwork is finished
Save the Date Cards: 2-3 weeks, once map artwork is finished
Watercolor Prints: 2-4 weeks, after map artwork is finished

Can you create a map to complement my invitation?

Yes!  That is our specialty, and we would love to become a part of your memorable day. Just be sure to send us details about your invitation so we can determine the best style, size and lettering to use.  We work closely with many talented printers to add the final touch to your invitation ensemble.

Can you create an invitation to complement my map?

Absolutely! Our wedding stationery is as unique as our map design.

Can I use a map design that you have already created?

Sure! This is a great way to save if you are on a tight budget or on a quick deadline! See our restyled maps page, for information on customizing map designs we have already created. Check out our list and choose your location.

We are constantly adding new designs to our map archive so check in with us to see if we have your location in our collection. Please inquire for pricing information.

Can I keep the artwork?

Original artwork is the property of Nina Kulick and Couture Maps.  If you wish to purchase original art, please contact us.

Do you make any other items?

Yes, we can create many different items - perfect for corporate gifts, wedding favors, group souvenirs, etc.  If you are interested in canvas totes, cotton kitchen towels, stationery and bamboo home goods. Please visit Gooseberry Designs for inspiration. If you are interested in creating custom wedding favors in one of those categories, please get in touch with us.

What types of printing do you offer?

We work with several talented printers and can offer foil printing, letterpress, and digital printing options.

Can I print the maps myself or send the artwork to my printer?

Definitely!! Custom project work is available with a digital file option. Just let us know the printing requirements of your specific project. We just ask that you supply us with some samples so we can add your project to our portfolio.

Is there a charge for sending the file to my printer?

There is a $25.00 charge for a map digital file. Please let us know what format your printer requires.

May I order one large print of my map?

Yes, and they are beautiful! The keepsake prints are painted in full color and can be created in most standard frame sizes.  Let us know what size you require.

Prints are $105.00 each + $15.00 shipping.

Prints are shipped from Los Gatos, California. Please allow 1 week for delivery within the U.S and 1-2 weeks, worldwide.

Can you create maps on other items?

Sure. We work with various printing companies and we can print on almost anything. Please see our portfolio page for fresh new ideas or visit Gooseberry Designs if you are interested in printing your design on any of our signature products: canvas totes, cotton kitchen towels, bamboo cheese/cutting boards or bamboo coaster sets.

:: Order ::

How do I submit an order?

Fill out the estimate request form and include as many details as possible. We will contact you soon after to discuss design, pricing and timing.

What do I need to supply you with to get started?

In order to begin, we would like the following items:

  • An overview of the boundary areas for the map you wish to create. This can be from Google Maps or website links. We also accept sketches you have created via email and hard copies shipped to our studio.
  • A list of items you wish to include on the map with the locations highlighted and the addresses. Please include important streets, landmarks and places special to you for a personalized touch.
  • Any website links or brochures of the area. This will help us to get to know the location and inspire us to create!
  • If we are designing a map to complement an invitation, please supply a sample of the stationery suite.

  • The title you would like to include. This can be your name, date of the event or anything else.

  • Final size of the piece.

  • Payment is due in full to begin. If we are creating printed materials, a 50% deposit for the printed items is due prior to starting the artwork. Our calendar fills up quickly so we require a payment in order to be added to the studio work schedule.

I've been seeing very similar work to yours! What is going on?

Our work has been very popular and we have discovered products similar to ours made by others in the industry.

Most of the time we consider this flattery but there have been times when it is outright piracy.  We do everything in our power to stop this theft of intellectual property.  Please don’t support the businesses that violate intellectual copyright laws and continue to steal content that isn’t theirs.  It is against the law and it isn't nice!

Thank you so much!
